K. L. Mc Loughlin says she is living the life she wants to live with the people she wants to live it with and she couldn’t be more grateful.

She writes the stories she wants to write, not what she’s told to do. Her characters, like her, often adopt conventional wisdom where it works for them and ignore it where it doesn’t.

While often considered controversial from a glance, she feels her faith is full of common sense and realism. “We all know where common sense comes from! I try to learn from my mistakes so I don’t have to make them again,” she says.

K. L. has studied psychology, linguistics, and elementary education formally. Her skills as a listener and observer of truth in herself and others, she says, have grown tremendously in recent years, benefiting more than just her writing.
When asked what was one of her biggest ‘aha!’ moments, she answered, “Realizing I’m not as nice or as generous as I thought I was, I guess. I used to be a ‘pleaser’ because that image of myself was central to my self-esteem. But I used to give too much of myself, sacrifice my needs, in order to tell myself how great I was. But I was being self-destructive because I wasn’t taking care of myself. Now I have a much healthier balance in my life and I am happier. When I give to others now, it is for the right reasons and that feels great.”

K. L.’s characters often struggle with similar challenges. Her stories are full of adventure, humor, steam and substance, just like their creator.
